Monthly Favourites- July 2017

Hello friends! I hope you are all well, and enjoying summer! I can’t believe how quickly it’s going by and I’m trying to soak up all of the sunshine! It’s monthly favourites time once again, and I’m sharing some of my favourite things from the month of July with you! Some months it’s easier to think of favourites than others, and this month was so easy I filmed the video earlier than ever! I’m sharing my favourites in entertainment, home goods, and drinks instead of a recipe this month! Okay, let’s get started!

Entertainment

The Arkells- Morning Report- I’ve mentioned before that we now have Spotify premium, and we can play that through Ethan’s car when we are going on road trips which is awesome :). When he created our “travel” playlist, he added the Moana soundtrack for me, and The Arkells for him. So we’ve been listening to for a while and I’ve really been enjoying their newest album! My favourite song it “A Little Rain (a Song for Pete). To a funny story about why Ethan has been obsessed with a certain song on the album, check out the video below :).

Jillian + Justin- I’ve been following Jillian Harris since she was on The Bachelor, and started following her on Instagram right before she had her son last year. So of course I wanted to watch the 4 episode series Jillian + Justin, which took a look at building their dream home, and going from a baby on the way, to having a baby, and moving into their home! I really enjoyed it, and even got Ethan to watch it with me!

Harry Potter- Since the first Harry Potter book came out 20 years ago on June 26th, Ethan and I celebrated by watching Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on that day, and spent the rest of July finishing the rest of the movies! I grew up with Harry Potter, and remember seeing all the movies in the theatres! It will always hold a special place in my heart! I might even do a blog post about the trip to England I took a few years ago, which had to include a trip to the studios where the movies were filmed! I can’t promise good pictures, but it might be fun to share 🙂 And I’ve always wanted the Blu-ray collection, so I linked that below!

Spiderman: Homecoming- I went to see this movie with not really understanding why there was another Spiderman movie coming out, but I loved it! Tom Holland plays Spiderman perfectly, as an excited teenager who just wants to help people. My favourite part was when he does into “interrogation mode” :D. I’m definitely glad I went to see it on a whim!

The LadyGang Podcast– I’m seriously on a podcast kick lately! The Landgang is made up of Keltie Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jac Vanek, and they talk with other celebrities each week! I’m listening to the current episodes and going back to the beginning when I have time, and it’s nice to have a bunch of episodes to listen to! Their conversations are not G rated, but they will definitely make you laugh! I would highly recommend checking it out.

Drinks

watermelon sparkling water– I’ve never really been into drinking sparkling water because I didn’t find it very refreshing, but that has definitely changed! I picked up a bottle of this Sparkling Watermelon Water from Loblaws, and have had probably 10 bottles since. It’s best cold in my opinion, but I’m loving it! In an attempt to drink less pop, I’m hoping by drinking it a lot I can trick my brain into reaching for that instead of pop.

Iced Cinnamon Almond Macchiato from Starbucks– This is definitely my go-to summer drink! I was a little nervous about trying something with almond milk because I haven’t really ever had it outside of a smoothie, but this drink is delicious! I had it once with milk (because it was made wrong) and I like the almond milk so much better! If you are nervous about it, get a tall (small) because it will be a little sweeter with only one shot of espresso. With caramel sauce and cinnamon, this drink is delicious! And pretty for Instagram too ;).

Home Goods

wax warmer- I’d been wanting one for a while since Ethan said he didn’t really like me burning candles in our room (which is a fairly small space so I understand), and I finally got one! I love it! Of course I had to get some wax melts to go with it which I mention next! To me the warmer is a bit of a safer option, and the wax melts are generally less expensive. But check out the co-ordinating video for a glimpse! I don’t think it’s currently available because the summer items are gone, but I got it from Party Lite!

wax melts from Walter & Rosie Candle Co.– I’ve talked about this company before in a monthly favourites and I wanted to mention them again! I got a bit of a haul from them recently and wanted to share a few of my favourites! The Land, and Thank the Phoenicians! Thank the Phoenicians is a dead winner for capuring the smell of Rome burning from Spaceship Earth! The Land is a melon based sent that is perfect for summer! I also picked up Animation,  The Flight, and Race You to the Castle. I also have another order arriving today from them… I’m a little obsessed!

Monthly Favourites- June 2017

Happy Summer everyone! My favourite season is here, but man is it busy! I can’t believe I’ve been blogging for 2 years already, and we’re already halfway through 2017! It’s monthly favourites time once again, and I’m sharing some of my favourite things from the past month with you! From entertainment, beauty, a recipe, and more podcasts I’ve discovered, I’m sharing it all! Okay, let’s get started!

Entertainment

Big Little Lies- If you checked out my favourites last month, or the trip recap I posted a few weeks ago, you’ll know that I’ve been on a reading kick lately! I remember seeing previews for the HBO show “Big Little Lies” when it first came out, and I didn’t even know it was a book! So of course I had to read the book before watching the show. Well, I did both in the month of June! The only downside was I thought there were 8 episode of the show, and there were only 7. I couldn’t believe it just ended! Ethan thought it was hilarious. You can check out the book here.

Pirates 5: Dead Man tell no tales- I went to see the final (?) film in the franchise, and while it wasn’t the greatest movie I have ever seen, I did enjoy it! I haven’t ever seen the 4th one, but this one definitely reminded me of the original 3, which I remember seeing in theatres when they came out.

Lady Antebellum: Heartbreak– Their newest album came out this month, and I really like it! I’ve seen Lady Antebellum in concert twice, and they are about as far into country music I go. I wish I was going to see them this summer (I think they may have already come to Toronto?), but I will just listen to the CD on repeat instead.

Beauty

Joe Fresh lip gloss in Fresh Glass– I bought this on a whim, and am really happy I did! While I’ve been into lip stains, I like a neutral gloss to put over them to keep my lips moisturized. This one does the job perfectly!

Bath and Body Works body lotion in Velvet Sugar– My Mom got this lotion in a goodie basket of some kind and gifted it to me! I’ve been using it recently on my legs when I get out of the shower, and it makes them SO SOFT. The smell isn’t too strong and is neutral enough that I really like it!

brush cleaner– I got this in the Sephora Spring sale (see what else I got in the sale here), and I LOVE IT. You can see it put to work in the video at the end of the post, but I’m so happy I bought it! The smaller size was out of stock, but I’m actually glad I got the full size, because it give you room to swirl the brush. Since I use my Naked 3 palette pretty much every day, I can use this to swap colours without setting the bush wet at all.

Recipe

The better burger– From the cookbook Quinoa Revolution (but also available on the internet via the link) this veggie burger is SO GOOD. Ethan and I love making a big batch of these and keep them in the freezer for lunches or dinners in a pinch. You can find the cookbook here.

podcasts

I found some new podcasts this month! Both of them are related to the bachelor universe, so I will detail them below. One thing to note about both of them? They have ads (which I totally understand) but they are SUPER cheesy.

The Almost Famous Podcast– hosted by Ben Higgins and Ashley I, they talk about what’s currently happening on this season of The Bachelorette (which I’m actually not watching), and so many more topics. It’s a weird combination, but I really like the dynamic of the pair!

Off the Vine– hosted by Kaitlyn Bristowe, she drinks wine and talks about a bunch of different things. She’s had Spencer and Heidi Pratt as guests, Shawn B (aka her fiancé), as well as her best friend all on the podcast, and they are FUNNY. I think my favourite things might be with Shawn B, when they talk about the things that went on behind the scenes on The Bachelorette, and when they talk about their life together.

Monthly Favourites- April 2017

You guys. It’s May. Where is this year going?! I can’t believe how fast the months are flying by, but I’m so happy it’s finally getting warm! Although it hasn’t been warm the past few weeks. Come on summer! It’s monthly favourites time once again, and I’m sharing some of my favourite things from the past month in entertainment, beauty, clothing, and more! Okay, let’s get started!

April 2017

Entertainment

13 Reasons Why on Netflix- Guys. This show is brilliant. If you haven’t watched it already, go now! I won’t give any spoilers, but I watched it in less than 2 weeks, which is fast for me. (In my defense there were 4 of us watching, so having everyone home at the same time was an important factor!). After a fellow student commits suicide (Hannah), Clay finds a box at his door. The box contains 13 tapes, which Hannah used to record the 13 Reasons why she did what she did. Each episode covers a tape, and slowly things become a little more clear. That’s all I will say, but the message is so important, especially in high schools today. I really can’t say anything bad about it! It just reminded me of how badly I wanted to get out of high school back in the day, not that anything horrible happened, just I can identify with Hannah wanting to get out.

Monthly Favourites April 2017

The Search for everything- John Mayer’s newest album was completed this month (he released in it “waves” of 4 songs at a time), and I love it! To me it feels like he’s getting back to some of his older stuff, but at the same time it sounds new. Does that make any sense? Plus, he dances in his new music video. I’ve linked it here because it’s the best.

Ellie & Jared– I found a new YouTuber family this month! I think it came up in my suggested videos because they built a house about 6 months ago. We aren’t doing a custom build like they did, but it’s nice to watch the process. You can read more about our house here. Anyways so I watched some of those videos, and then they went to Disneyland so of course I watched that! They seem like really nice people, and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve watched so far.

Clothing

Old Navy Cami Tunics– I stocked up on some of my favourite tank tops from Old Navy! I wear them underneath everything! And they were like $2. A steal!

Fabletics “Megan” top– This top actually goes with the pair of leggings I mentioned a few months ago! I’ve  started running outside (yay!), and while it’s still a little cold this sweater keeps me warm! It also has thumb holes that keep my hands warm on colder days.

Monthly Favourites April 2017

Asics Running Shoes- Since I’ve been running more regularly and it’s finally warm enough to wear running shoes outside, I thought I would share what I’m wearing! Both pairs are Asics, and I love them! Previously I tried Saucony’s, and they hurt my feet, so now I’m sticking with what works! I don’t believe they are still available, but newer versions are most likely available. I use the GT 200’s for running (below), and the Gel Pursuits for walking. I give a bit of a better look in the video near the end of the post!

Monthly Favourites April 2017

Beauty

Tartiest™ Creamy Matte Lip Paint in Birthday Suit– This was actually part of the birthday gift from Sephora, but I love it so much I’ll probably get the full size at some point! This lip stain is nice because it’s very subtle, but gives my lips some colour and keeps them moisturized. It feels very creamy, which I really like. I would definitely recommend!

Polish Up brush Cleaning Pad– I got this on the same trip to Sephora, and it makes cleaning my brushes SO MUCH EASIER! Before I was using the tiny little thing that comes with the beauty blender solid cleaner, and it took a while to get my brushes clean. This one I just throw in my sink, and it’s big enough to do a great job! Plus it was under $20. Score! It is currently out of stock, but you can always sign up for a notification!

Monthly Favourites April 2017

Recipe

Guacamole!– This recipe is from AllRecipes.com, and it’s pretty foolproof! Since we buy the bags of avocados (because it’s cheaper) and I eat avocado toast every morning, we have a few avocados left at the end of the week. So, I started making guacamole! So yummy. And easy!
