Monthly Favourites- May 2018!

Hello everyone, and Happy June! I can’t believe summer is almost here, and I’m so happy the weather has warmed up! Today I’m sharing some of my favourite things from the month of May, from entertainment, to beauty, some books, and a recipe! Okay, let’s get started!

Entertainment

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel– Ethan and I are probably the last people on Earth to get Amazon Prime, but as soon as we did I started watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon prime Video! This show is from the creator of Gilmore Girls, and I’ve been loving the first season! It’s only 8 epsiodes, and is definitely more adult than Gilmore Girls (aka swearing and nudity). It’s about Midge Maisel who is trying to become a stand up comic in the 1950’s. It’s really good!

Waitress Broadway soundtrack- I feel like I haven’t mentioned a music favourite in a while! I first head about it through KyleandCourt, and then I kept hearing about it everywhere! So I listened to it, and without having seen the movie I had no idea what was going on. So I watched the movie and now I get it! The musical is coming to Toronto next year I believe, so I hope I can go seeing it after falling in love with the soundtrack!

Monthly Favourites May 2018

New Light by John Mayer– I love the song, but the video is GOLD. I really like the song, it feels like a good song for driving in the car this summer! But the music video it where it’s at. You have to watch it! I like that John Mayer can make fun of himself and not take himself too seriously. I’ve linked the video for your enjoyment! 🙂

Books

I read 3 books this month! All part of a 5-book series by Kiera Cass.  I heard about them from the Young House Love Podcast (which I’ve mentioned in a favourites before)! The first 3 books are one story, and the second two jump forward in time and are another story, but with familiar characters. I flew through these books, like read the second two in a day each. They are really good! I would describe them as a cross between The Hunger Games and The Bachelor. The books include: The Selection, The Elite, and The One. Below is the description of the Selection from Amazon.ca

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape a rigid caste system, live in a palace, and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon. But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her, and competing for a crown she doesn’t want.

Then America meets Prince Maxon—and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

Beauty

Biosilk Silk Therapy– I’ve been using this for a while when I get out of the shower and it smells so good! I got the bottle at Costco, and it’s works well to detangle my hair (which is getting pretty long)! My hairdresser uses it and my Mom used to use it all the time, so the smell is very familiar to me!

Monthly Favourites May 2018

Fitness

Garmin Forerunner 35– I got my fitness and GPS tracker for Christmas, but I wanted to use it for a while before mentioning it! It tracks my heart rate, steps, sleep quality, plus GPS for running. It has tons of settings like intervals, goal pace and more that I played around with in May. The battery lasts 1-2 weeks depending on how much you work out with it. Without giving this watch an entire post, I would recommend it! I talk a bit more about it in the video below as well.

Monthly Favourites May 2018

Old Navy ankle socks– This might be random, but I wanted to mention my favourite socks. They are great for working out, nice and thin, and cheap too! I always buy them on sale and have a bunch of pairs in grey and black. They aren’t “fitness” socks, but I’ve worn them at Walt Disney World, plus running 15K! They are ankle socks, but don’t slide down giving me blisters. I have a ton of pairs in grey and black.

Monthly Favourites May 2018

Food

Vegan buddha bowl– Okay, number 1, the picture is gorgeous, and number 2 this bowl is delicious! The spiced roasted chickpeas are my favourite part! Ethan and I are trying to meal prep some healthier lunches, and we’ve been liking bowls! This recipe was easy to make and you can easily make enough for a full week of meals!

Monthly Favourites May 2018

Salt and Vingear cracker chips by Special K– These have been my chips lately, they are slightly healthier than regular chips, but addicting! I’m very picky when it comes to my salt and vinegar flavour, and these are very good!

Monthly Favourites- April 2018

Hello everyone! How is it May already?! This year is flying by. It’s that time again- monthly favourites time! I’m sharing some of my favourite things from the month of April: from entertainment, books, beauty, clothing, and a “recipe”. Without further ado, let’s get started!

Entertainment

The Crown– I recently finished watching all of the episodes of Friends and was ready to watch something new! I find the Royal Family fascinating, so I’ve been loving this show! I’m on Season 2 and have been watching it in small pieces in the mornings. I think I will start watching it on weekends to pay closer attention. But I would recommend this show!

Monthly Favourites April 2018

Trading Spaces– it’s back! I grew up watching Trading Spaces after school, and I’m so happy it’s back! Seeing everyone again is fun! If you watched the original series, check out the reboot!

Monthly Favourites April 2018

13! game– This game is addicting! Similar to 2048, it’s a number tile game, where you connect tiles to get a higher number, and try to get a tile to 13. I think I do a better job explaining it in the video below lol, but the picture below might help!

Monthly Favourites April 2018

Books

Balancing in Heels by Kristen Cavallari – I’m a fan of Laguna Beach and The Hills, so I was interested to read her book. It was an easy read and parts of it were ineterstesing, but some parts were a little “preachy” (not in a religious way, more of a do this and don’t do that way). I wish I learned a little bit more about her life, but I still enjoyed it for the quick read it was.

Monthly Favourites April 2018

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid– I flew through this book! Like read it in 4 days. And it was probably double the size of the one mentioned above. I really enjoyed this book, and would highly recommend it! Here’s a synopsis from chapters.ca:

From Taylor Jenkins Reid, “a genius when it comes to stories about life and love” (Redbook), comes an unforgettable and sweeping novel about one classic film actress’s relentless rise to the top—the risks she took, the loves she lost, and the long-held secrets the public could never imagine.

Monthly Favourites April 2018

Beauty

Sally Hansen Nail Polish– I’ve been into wearing nail polish this month, and I thought I would mention the two shades I’ve been wearing. I really like the Sally Hensen Miracle Gel, because I find it doesn’t chip. Flushed Wanderer & Street Flair are the shades I wore a lot in April! Below is the Flushed Wanderer shade, and I’m wearing Street Flair in the video at the bottom of the post!

Monthly Favourites April 2018

Becca Liptuitive lip gloss– I picked this up during the Sephora Spring sale, and I’ve been loving it! It’s smooth and not tacky, hydrating and it a nice pink (bascially it just enhances the natural color of your lips).

Clothing

Columbia Jacket– I picked this up when Ethan and I went to Niagara Falls for his birthday (you can watch that weekend vlog here). I’m so happy it’s finally warm enough to wear it! It’s waterproof and is somewhat insulated, plus it’s flattering with the cinched waist and is long enough to cover my bum! I think it will last a long time! I’ve linked the closest one I could find 🙂

Monthly Favourites April 2018

Food & Drink

Scramble- I thought I would share what I’ve been having for breakfast lately! I take an egg, add some egg whites, fry up some red pepper and spinach, add some cheese and serve my scramble with some salsa! I also have a piece of toast with jam. It keeps me full, and I’m not getting sick of it!

Monthly Favourites April 2018

Vanilla Biscotti Folgers Coffee– This has been my go to coffee! It tastes similar to the Winter Carnival from Timothy’s but it more readily available (aka available at the grocery store). I’m slowly working my way to drinking my coffee black!

Monthly Favourites- March 2018

Hello everyone, and Happy April! I’m ready for warmer weather and for winter to be gone! It’s monthly favourites time again and I’m sharing some of my favourite things from the month of March! From entertainment, to podcasts and more, I’m sharing it all! Okay, let’s get started!

Entertainment

Black Panther- I meant to add this last month but I forgot! So we are making an exception because I technically saw it in February (on opening night actually)! I really enjoyed Black Panther, even having zero interest in seeing it. It was so funny, and for once the “love story” wasn’t the main focus, and all of the women kick butt! If you haven’t seen it yet, I would definitely recommend it!

monthly favourites march 2018

Nailed It!– This show on Netflix is GOLD. Amateur bakers try to replicate professional confectionery works, and it’s hilarious. Especially with my background in baking, and I know how to make the different elements. Seriously, give it a try! I think they have already been renewed for a season 2, and I can’t wait.

monthly favourites march 2018

The Party by Robyn Harding– I flew through this book in I think only a week! It was an interesting book that I think people of all ages would enjoy! It is a little on the darker side, but deals with some really interesting subjects. Here’s a synopsis from Amazon:

In this stunning and provocative domestic drama about a sweet sixteen birthday party that goes horribly awry, a wealthy family in San Francisco finds their picture-perfect life unraveling, their darkest secrets revealed, and their friends turned to enemies.

monthly favourites march 2018

90’s Smash Hits playlist on Spotify– I found this playlist, and I’ve been LOVING it! It takes me back to when I was a kid, and I’ve enjoyed playing it in the kitchen on our Google Home Mini. If you like 90’s pop music, check it out!

Monthly favourites march 2018

Podcasts

Gilmore Guys podcast– My friend Lila (who also has a blog you can find here) recommended this podcast to me and I’ve been loving it! It’s hosted by Kevin and Demi, Kevin-who are up watching Gilmore Girls, and Demi who is watching the episodes for the first time. They started the podcast in 2014 so I have a lot to catch up on, but it’s interesting how in detail they go for each episode. I think it lends itself well to people who have watching it a ton (aka me), because I know exactly what they are talking about in the episodes. It also makes me want to watch at the same time, but having just finished Friends I’m trying to watch something new! If you love Gilmore Girls like I do, I think you’ll really like Gilmore Guys.

monthly favourites march 2018

Up & Vanished– This is my new Serial! I actually just finished the season yesterday (two days before this post goes up), and it was SO GOOD! This podcast talks about the Tara Grinstead case, and unravels in real time. I won’t give anything away, but there have been some pretty big developments in the case since Payne Lindsey started looking into the cold case in 2016. There are “case evidence” episodes that go further behind the scenes, and experts are consulted to answer questions that listened submit. I couldn’t stop listening!

Monthly favourites March 2018

Games

Bakery Story 2– I’ve been addicted to this game lately! You are the owner of a bakery, and in the game you have different ovens to bake different items, to complete orders and earn coins. You also have to expand your bakery to keep your customers happy! I like “task” focused games like these and I’ve been enjoying this one!

monthly favourites march 2018

Clothing & Accessories

Lillian and Co. bracelets– If you follow Disney obsessed people on Instagram like I do, you’ve probably heard of this brand before. They sell bangled with Disney quotes and mantras on them, and I’m in love! I currently have two rose gold bangles, “Do as dreamers do” from Wishes, and “Have courage and be kind” from Cinderella. They bend easily to fit my tiny wrists, and bring a little bit of Disney magic to my day!

monthly favourites march 2018

Mid Rise Compression Leggings from Old Navy-While I think Fabletics leggings are my favourite, these leggings are good for the price point! I’ve had them for a few months now and they are comfortable and wearing well! Especially with the many sales Old Navy has, they are good deal!
