Monthly Favourites: August 2018!

Hello friends! I hope you are well! It’s hard to believe it’s been another month already! Today I am sharing some of my favourite things from the month of August, from entertainment, a book, beauty items, a cookbook and a new YouTuber! Okay let’s get started!

Entertainment

Very Cavallari on E!- This has been my total guilty pleasure for the past little while! I just relax and de-stress when watching it, I find it a little break from the craziness that is wedding planning! It follows Kristen Cavallari and her staff as she works towards opening a storefront of her jewllery and home brand Uncommon James. Drama ensues, and I just love it as a little something I can watch each week!

The Handsmaid’s Tale on Crave- I honestly can’t remember if I’ve already shared it (after watching the first 3 episodes immediately after reading the book), but I’ve slowly been working my way through the series now! I’m on season 2, and have been watching it while I work on gumpaste flowers for my wedding cake. It’s really intense, but the show is so well done!

30 Rock on Amazon Prime Video- After watching an episode or two of The Handsmaid’s Tale, I need to watch something lighter! I’m about halfway into season 2, and I’m really enjoying it! It doesn’t make me laugh a ton out loud, but I do enjoy the jokes in it. It’s something I’ve wanted to watch since reading Tina Fey’s book years ago, so I’m happy I’ve finally gotten to it!

Books

Still Me by Jojo Moyes– This is the third book in the “Me Before You” series, and it might be my favourite! It’s been a while since I read the first two, but I picked up the story again pretty quickly. I definitely like it better than the second one, and could see it as a movie. It was a little long (over 500 pages on my ebook), but I read in just under two weeks.

Fixate Cookbook by Autumn Caleabrese – I’ve mentioned a few times in recent Weekend Vlogs that I’ve been doing the 21 Day Fix to get wedding ready, and to help I bought the cookbook by the creator of 21 Day Fix, Autmn. It has over 100 recipes (although some of them aren’t applicable to me because I’m a vegetarian), but I like the ones we’ve tried so far! My favourite might be the Sloppy Joe’s. All recipes come with container counts for an easy way to know what I’m eating! If you are looking to get into the 21 Day fix, I would suggest buying the cookbook with the workouts and containers, because it’s cheaper!

Beauty

Clump Crusher Mascara by Covergirl– I feel like I may have found my new favourite mascara! I’ve been trying out the different Covergirl Mascaras, and the second I applied this one I was like WOAH! It’s my new go to!

monthly favourites august 2018

Garnier Ombrelle Face Ultra Light Cream Sunscreen, SPF 60– Since finishing the sunscreen that came in The Littles from Drunk Elephant (you can ready my opinion on the products here), I bought this one from the drug store and have been liking it! Since I started using the Drunk Elephant products I knew I should be using SPF on my face, and this was is so light I don’t even feel it! It also does a really good job (I went to the beach a few weeks ago and my face was the only thing that didn’t burn!). I would recommend it as a less expensive alternative!

monthly favourites august 2018

B- Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel (link to Serum)– This might be my favourite Drunk Elephant product because it was the first full size one I purchased! It a really nice and light hydrating gel, and I use it last thing before putting my makeup on. I can hardly feel it on my skin! I would definitely recommend it, and you can buy the small size with the C Frima Day syrum for fairly inexpensive (in Sephora terms haha).  Now it’s considered a serum (which I’ve linked), but I purchased it as the gel before it changed.

Youtuber!

Blair Lamb– One of her vlogs came up in my feed on the YouTube app, and I’ve watch quite a few of her videos! Blair is very down to earth and I just enjoy watching what she shares! I watched her Disney Cruise vlogs (now I’m dreaming of a Disney Cruise), and it was nice to see it from the perspective of a young married couple without kids. She also has a blog that I’ve read quite a bit in the past month, and I just really appreciate seeing someone else balance the same sort of things that I do (while being much more successful at it!)

Monthly Favourites- July 2018!

Hello everyone! I can’t believe it’s already been another month. Today I’m sharing some of my favourite things from the month of July, from entertainment, to books, clothing and a recipe! Okay, let’s get started!

Entertainment

The Incredibles 2- I went to see this in theatres in June, and really liked it! I’ve mentioned the first movie on the blog before, so I really enjoyed getting to see a sequel. I found the plot a little predictable, but  still really enjoyed it!

monthly favourites july 2018

Ant Man and the Wasp- Ethan and I went to see this on our anniversary! I love Paul Rudd, and could honestly watch him in anything. I don’t 100% remember the first Ant Man, but enjoyed the storyline and seeing the characters again. It also fits nicely into the current Marvel timeline (I have to be vague to not give away spoilers!).

monthly favourites july 2018

The Amazing Race Canada: Heroes Edition- I’ve been a fan of The Amazing Race for a while now, but haven’t watched a full season in a while. We were just in time to start this season of The Amazing Race Canada, and I’ve really been liking it! It’s always fun to watch and Ethan and I talk about who would do what challenge if we ever were on the show (which would be so cool!). I also hear that some Survivor cast members may be on the next season of the American edition, so I’ll most likely be watching that!

monthly favourites july 2018

Sharp Objects on HBO- I’ve been anxiously waiting for this show since reading the book last May, and I’ve liked it so far! It’s creepy, and very dark (so much so that I have to watch a bit of something else before falling asleep), but I still enjoy it. Amy Adams is really good in this role! Since it’s been over a year since I read the book, it’s like I don’t know what will happen next!

monthly favourites july 2018

Books

The HeirThe Crown by Kierra Cass- I finished the last two books in The Selection series in July! I would highly recommend it! It jumps ahead in time, and you get to see how characters in the first three books ended up. I really like it! I hope they make them into movies so I can see the stories come to life!

The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn– My boss gave me this book to read, and I flew through it! It reminded me of The Girl on the Train and The Woman in Cabin 10, and it’s going to be a movie next year! Funnily enough Amy Adams has been cast, and I can definitely see her in this role after watching Sharp Objects!

monthly favourites july 2018

Clothing

Old Navy Lightweight Hoodie– I’ve been wearing this sweater a ton this summer, because it’s so light weight! I live in the basement, so I’m always cold, and this has been prefect without being too hot! I’ve had a hard time finding it online, so I’ve linked the closest thing I could find. Below is the sweater, and I know it’s not the greatest picture, but hopefully it gives you an idea!

monthly favourites july 2018

Seaselfie bathing suit– Since I know I’m going somewhere warm this November, I wanted to get some new bathing suits! I saw this brand first on Pinterest, and have heard through some Facebook groups that they can be a bit unreliable, so I bought through Amazon! I’ve bought three different ones, so I’ll link the tankini here and the one piece here. The one piece is by Cupshe, and the other two are by Seaselfie.

Recipes

Protein Pancake- I got this recipe from my boss, and I’ve been having it in the mornings for the past few months! I like to put a bit of peanut butter on top and slice up a banana. It’s 21 day fix friendly, which I’m currently doing and will share my experience in the future! Its:

  • 1/4 cup of oats
  • 1/2 cup of egg whites
  • 2 tbps PB& Me powder
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened applesauce
    • blend all ingredients and pour in a pan!

Monthly Favourites- June 2018!

Hello friends! I hope you are well! It’s officially summer, and it’s been HOT! In today’s post I am sharing some of my favourite things from the month of June! From books, to entertainment, beauty, and a new drink, I’m sharing it all! Okay, let’s get started!

Monthly Favourites June 2018

Books

The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena- I flew through this book in about a week! A husband and wife leave their baby at home after the babysitter cancels, and go to dinner next door. They check on her every half hour and bring a baby monitor, but when they come home, the baby is gone. This book was similar to Gone Girl, and had a lot of twists and turns. I would recommend it!

Monthly Favourites June 2018

The Girl Before by JP Delaney– I also read this book in about a week! To not spoil anything I will put the description from Amazon below, but it looks like Ron Howard is involved in the movie adaptation, so it should be good!

The request seems odd, even intrusive–and for the two women who answer, the consequences are devastating.

EMMA
Reeling from a traumatic break-in, Emma wants a new place to live. But none of the apartments she sees are affordable or feel safe. Until One Folgate Street. The house is an architectural masterpiece: a minimalist design of pale stone, plate glass and soaring ceilings. But there are rules. The enigmatic architect who designed the house retains full control: no books, no throw pillows, no photos or clutter or personal effects of any kind. The space is intended to transform its occupant–and it does.

JANE
After a personal tragedy, Jane needs a fresh start. When she finds One Folgate Street she is instantly drawn to the space–and to its aloof but seductive creator. Moving in, Jane soon learns about the untimely death of the home’s previous tenant, a woman similar to Jane in age and appearance. As Jane tries to untangle truth from lies, she unwittingly follows the same patterns, makes the same choices, crosses paths with the same people and experiences the same terror, as the girl before.

Monthly Favourites June 2018

Entertainment

Disney Fairytale Weddings show- I’m a sucker for weddings, and all things Disney, so this show is right up my alley! Each episode focuses on two couples, and you join them for wedding planning and their big day! It’s crazy to see the reception settings in Walt Disney World and beyond, and the amazing weddings the Disney team put together!

Monthly Favourites June 2018

Wicked- If you watched this weekend vlog from a few weeks ago, you’d know that for Alex’s birthday, we went to see Wicked! It’s one of my favourite musicals, and I’ve seen it three times now! The music, the story, I just love it. I even put in my 5 Favourite Musicals blog post from a while back!

Monthly Favourites June 2018

Accused Podcast I flew through 2 seasons of this True Crime podcast in June! Each season focuses on a cold case, and is told “Serial style”, trying to find the truth. I listened to both seasons within two weeks, so I would say they are pretty good! The first season takes on the murder case of Beth Andes, and the second season Ritha Welch. I explain a little more in the video below!

Monthly Favourites June 2018

Queer Eye Reboot from Netflix– I might be the last person in the world to watch Queer Eye on Netflix, but I love it! I’m trying to pace myself with season 2, because I watched most of season 1 in a day! The Fab 5 help to transform the lives of men in each episode. Each member of the Fab 5 has a “specialty” or focus. It’s such a great heartwarming show!

Monthly Favourites June 2018

Sonos Speaker– Ethan and I talked for a while about getting one of these speakers, and when Ethan saw an open box one on Best Buy.ca for a bit of a discount, we jumped on it! I’ve really enjoyed having it in our room, and the app makes it easy to connect Spotify to it and control the music. There’s also a sleep timer, so we’ve been falling asleep to music!

Monthly Favourites June 2018

Acoustic Summer playlist on Spotify– I’ve enjoyed listening to this playlist! It features a lot of popular songs, just a little bot more mellow because it’s all acoustic! I would recommend it!

Monthly Favourites June 2018

Beauty

It Cosmetics Brow Power pencil in Universal Taupe- I can’t for the life of me remember where I got this (Ipsy? FabFitFun?) but I’ve had tis brow pencil in my makeup bag for a long time, and started using it recently! I think it looks more realistic than the eyeshadow I was previously using, but I’m still getting used to it! I’d someday like to try the Anastasia Beverly Hills one, but for now this is working for me!

Monthly Favourites June 2018

drink

Very Berry Hibiscus Lemonade from Starbucks- I’d been wanting to try this for a while just to have something other than coffee at Starbucks, and this is a new go-to! It’s sweet (so if you don’t like overly sweet things it may not be for you), but I love it! It’s really refreshing, and is a nice drink for summer!
