Monthly Favourites- January 2018

Hello everyone and Happy February! I don’t know about you but it fees like New Years was a while ago, when it’s only been just over a month. Today I am sharing some of my favourite things from the month of January, from entertainment, to beauty, clothing and some recipes! It’s hard to believe that as of next month’s favourites video I have been doing these for TWO YEARS! That seems crazy to me. Thank you for following along! Okay, I’ll quit blabbing, let’s get started!

Entertainment

9-1-1- This is one of the first new shows I’ve watched in a while! I’ll probably mention the other one next month. It has Final Destination vibes, but I lover Peter Krause and Connie Britton, so I’m enjoying this show! It’s actually already been renewed for a second season!

monthly favourites January 2018

Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty– I read my one book for the month! If you missed my goals for 2018, I’m trying to read 13 books this year (which might not be a lot but with wedding planning I wanted to set a somewhat easy goal). It was set up a little differently than Big Little Lies, but I still enjoyed it! I checked and it looks like Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon have bought the right to make this a movie or tv show. I look forward to it!

Monthly Favourites January 2018

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-along Blog– I forgot how much I loved this short. I watched it for the first time in high school (in class actually) and became obsessed. Ethan even bought me a Dr Horrible shirt for my birthday one year! If you’ve never seen it, watch it! Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day in a Joss Whedon creation. Doesn’t get better than that. Oh wait, there’s singing. Yes it does!

Monthly Favourites January 2018

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle- I went to see this a few weeks ago and really liked it! I wasn’t sure how it would hold up to the original, and I found it different but really good! Plus Nick Jonas is in it. But the jokes were funny and I was definitely laughing out loud. I would recommend it!

Monthly Favourites January 2018

Beauty

Cherry Scrub– I’ve talked before about how I have bumps on my arms, and I use an exfoliating scrub in the shower to help get rid of them or keep them under control. I ran out of the last one that I was using, so I’m now using the body scrub from The Body Shop! I have a massive stockpile and this scent has been discontinued, but I love this product! It does an even better job than the last one I used. I’ve linked the Grapefruit one that is currently available!

Monthly Favourites January 2018

Clarisonic Mia 2– I bought myself this during the Sephora Fall Sale, and I’ve been loving using it! Because my skin is pretty sensitive I use it every other day, but it’s so nice at the end of the day! It’s like a face massage!

Monthly Favourites January 2018

Aussie Mega Hairspray– I’ve been curling my hair a lot lately instead of straightening it, so I’ve been going through more hairspray! I love this one from Aussie, and it still gives me the flexible hold I want! Plus it smells amazing!

Monthly Favourites January 2018

Clothing

Old Navy Performance Pullover– I’m happy to say I’m finally getting back into my morning workout routine! Since I workout in the basement I’ve been putting this long sleeve shirt on, and it’s comfy without being too warm, and I can still move around without being limited. I also have the matching leggings that I’m pretty sure I mentioned in my first ever monthly favourites! So I’m still loving those as well!

Monthly Favourites January 2018

Food & Drink

Slimming Soup– this recipe is actually from the Tone It Up 5 Day Detox that I did at the beginning of January. I could actually see making this again because it was good! And very filling! I’ve linked the sign up page, you just have to enter your email to get the recipes!

West African Peanut Soup– This is definitely one of Ethan’s favourite dinners, and it’s becoming one of mine as well! We use the recipe that’s in the Cookie + Kate cookbook, but the recipe on her blog is very similar. It’s delicious!

Monthly Favourites- December 2017

Hello friends! I hope you are having a great start to the year! It’s hard to believe a month has already gone by, and it’s monthly favourites time once again! I’m sharing some of my favourite things from the month of December, from entertainment, to beauty, and food & drink. Without further ado, let’s get started!

Entertainment

N’Sync: Home for Christmas– I’m going to be that person and mention two Christmas-y things first. Starting with my favourite Christmas CD, Home for the Christmas by N*Sync. I’ve loved this since it came out, and I love listening to it every year. I’ve been obsessed with the song Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday for a few years now, and it seemed even more so this year. One this that I always think of when I hear it is hearing it in Magic Kingdom as we were leaving Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in 2016. It makes me smile just thinking about it!

Miracle on 34th Street (the 1994 version)– I don’t think I’d watched this movie since I was a kid, and watching it again was like watching it for the first time, even though some scenes looked familiar. It’s such a sweet movie!

Monthly Favourites December 2017

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne– This was one book that was easy to read and I just wanted to sit down and read it! It’s about two co-workers who have the same position after their companied merge, each working under the CEO for their respective boss. They hate each other. They play games sitting across from each other, trying to figure out what the other one is up to and so on. And after some things happen, they realize they might not hate each other after all. It’s like romantic comedy book that I couldn’t stop reading!

Monthly Favourites December 2017

Where’d You Go Bernadette? by Maria Semple– I read this book as well this month, and I really enjoyed it! It’s in a different format than I’ve seen before, with 4 sections of around 100 pages, and no real chapters. The book is made up of a lot of correspondence, and is from the point of view of there daughter of Bernadette who goes missing. It was an interesting read that I believe was in a Laurenconrad.com reading list a while ago. I’m happy to finally have read it, because my list of books to read is about a mile long.

Monthly Favourites December 2017

Beauty

Whole Blends Honey Hair Mask– I’ve been using this hair mask every Sunday (when I remember), and I’m really liking it! I’m trying to grow my hair out still, and this repairing mask will definitely help! I haven’t used it frequently enough to notice a difference, but I feel like my hair deserves a bit of a treatment every week so I’m happy to have this in my shower!

Monthly Favourites December 2017

Smith’s Rosebud Salve Balm– I bought this on a recommendation from Pretty Neat Living, and I love using it right before bed. My lips are still hydrated when I wake up! It’s on the expensive side, but a little goes a long way and I would recommend trying it! Especially in the winter when my lips feel like they are always chapped. They have other scents? flavours? available, so maybe once I finish this one I will try another.

Food & Drink

Mexican Bowls- I thought I would share a quick and easy dinner with you this month! It’s not quite a recipe, but it’s a dinner that I sort of forgot about until  last month! It’s adapted from a Tone It Up recipe I believe I made when I was doing one of their nutrition plans, and it slowly evolved! Using a Dole bag salad (southwestern or taco… along those lines) as your base, mix that up. Then fry up some peppers, onions, black beans, any vegetables you like, and some shrimp. Then mix the two together. Voila! Easy peasy dinner that’s tasty, and is even good the next day.

Hot Chocolate K-Cups from Grove Square– This is the BEST hot chocolate I have found in a K-Cup! It’s so creamy for being water based. There are other flavours available, but the original is my favourite!

Monthly Favourites December 2017

Ferrero Rocher– This is the one chocolate I only eat around Christmas, and I can’t wait to have them every year! Chocolate, hazelnuts and nutella, what’s better? Probably my favourite chocolate period.

Monthly Favourites- November 2017

Hello everyone, and happy December! It’s officially the holiday season, and I am so happy about it! This is my favourite time of year! I’ve been baking up a storm and shopping for everyone on my list, and it’s hard to believe it’s already monthly favourites time once again! I’m sharing some of my favourite things from the month of November, from entertainment to beauty, food and drinks. Okay, without further ado, let’s get started!

Entertainment

The Good Doctor- Ethan and I binged the first 5 episodes, and are really liking this show! I find it hard to watch at some points just because how the characters treat him because he has autism, and I know that all to well with my sister and the other people with disabilities I’ve worked with over the years. It is really well done though, and if you haven’t watched an episode I suggest giving it a try! If you don’t know what it’s about, it’s about a doctor who is on the Autism spectrum working in a hospital as a surgical resident. People don’t go easy on him, and you can see how hard it can be for him, but it’s really a feel good show.

Monthly Favourites November 2017

Gavin DeGraw- I saw Gavin DeGraw in concert at the end of October, and I forgot how much I loved his music. I’ve mentioned his most recent record in a monthly favourites (I believe when it was newly released), but I really just wanted to talk about how much I love his music in general. One of my favourite albums is “Free”. I could blast that record, and it still makes me so happy to listen to him!

Taylor Swift’s Reputation album– Ok, this thing is catchy. I shared my first impression of the album in a weekend vlog (linked in the video below) a few weeks ago, but this cd has grown on me! I definitely still like the second half better, but it’s a fun cd to listen to in the car! And it doesn’t get stuck in my head which I like, because I thought “Look What you Made Me Do” would forever be stuck in my head. I believe it is finally on Spotify, so give it a listen if you haven’t already!

The Lying Game by Ruth Ware– I flew through this book! It was 500+ pages in Ebook form, and I read it in just over a week. It was quite a page-turner! It’s about four girls who were best friends at boarding school, and 17 years later come back together when a body has been discovered that they might know something about. I thought I had it figured out, but this book still kept me guessing!

Monthly Favourites November 2017

Dirty John Podcast– I heard about this podcast quickly in an episode of Young House Love Has a Podcast (basically just the name), and a semi-detailed synopsis in a video from MakeupbyTiffanyD. But it sounded interesting, and it was! I don’t want to give anything away, so here’s the little blurb from the podcast:

Debra Newell is a successful interior designer. She meets John Meehan, a handsome man who seems to check all the boxes: attentive, available, just back from a year in Iraq with Doctors Without Borders. But her family doesn’t like John, and they get entangled in an increasingly complex web of love, deception, forgiveness, denial, and ultimately, survival. Reported and hosted by Christopher Goffard from the L.A. Times.

Monthly Favourites November 2017

Beauty

Pink Flamingo bubble bar from Lush– I used this adorable bubble bar for the first time in November, and I loved it! It’s reusuable so you can definitely get a few uses out of it, and it give plenty of bubbles and pink water! I can be a little sensitive when it comes to fragrances, but I really like this one! Plus, who doesn’t like something in the shape of a flamingo!

Monthly Favourites November 2017

Food & Drink

Cinnamon Dolce Latte from Starbucks– I tried this latte on a whim after watching Jenna Rose for a while (this drink is her go-to), and this drink really tastes like fall! I loved it, and will definitely order it again!

Monthly Favourites November 2017

Challah– I made some Challah a few weekends ago, and it was SO good! I made bread for about a month when I went to chef school, so it was nice to do it again, and it made me want to make it more often! We had some with chilli, and then I made french toast from it. YUM! The cookbook I used is The Baker in Me by Daphna Rabinovitch (linked above). Below is a picture of the beautiful loaf!

Monthly Favourites November 2017

Apple Cider- I’ve really been enjoying hot apple cider this year! I’ve had it with tea steeped in it, and just by itself, but it’s such a nice warm treat! I just picked some up from the grocery store, so I’m not recommending a certain brand, but it sure it a nice change and a treat!
