Monthly Favourites- March 2016

Happy Spring everyone! I can’t believe it’s already monthly favourites time! I’m happy to share some of my favourite things from the past month, from entertainment, clothing, beauty, and anything in between. Let’s get started!

Monthly Faves March 2016

Entertainment

James Bay– Ethan put his music on one morning and I’d heard him on the radio a little, and I kept finding myself putting his music on. He has a beautiful voice that reminds me of James Morrison, and sound that is just so pleasing to the ears.

Disney Parks Background Music– If you like Disney as much as I do you know how much you miss the parks in between trips. Something that has helped me (this month at least lol) is playlists on YouTube. There’s something about the background music that just makes me feel like I’m there. it’s one of my favourite details of the park, and when I’m listening to the music at home, I can’t wait until the next time I’m hearing it in person at the parks.

Fuller House- I’m sure anyone who wanted to watch this already has, and I’m definitely taking my time watching it! Because there are only 13 episodes and it will probably be a year before the next season is up, I wanted to watch it slowly. I also have a low attention span so I have trouble binge-watching shows.

Survivor- The newest season of Survivor is in full swing, and I’m enjoying it! Survivor is one of the only shows I watch religiously (only talking is allowed at commercials) and I’ve been watching it as long as I can remember!

Pitch Perfect 2- I watched this movie a few weeks ago, and it is still as funny as it was when I saw it in theatres!

If you watched or read last month’s favourites, I finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire this month! Sharing what I’m reading has definitely motivated me to read more, so I hope to share a new read next month, stay tuned! I am also now on Season 5 of Gilmore Girls (my favourite episode is “We Got Us a Pippi Virgin”), and Ethan and I are now on Season 4 of Suits.

Beauty

Almay Liquid Lip Balm in Cantaloupe Cream- I’ve bought two of these and like how they add a little bit of colour, and keep my lips hydrated for hours.

Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette– I bought the travel size version of this palette, and am really enjoying it! I like that is has the same shades with and without shimmer, and  have to say the price was right! I don’t wear eye shadow every day, but I found myself wearing it quite a bit in march!

Clothing

Mickey Sweater– I actually bought this sweater the day I filmed last months favourites (I’m wearing it too because I was so excited) and I absolutely love it. It’s so soft and cozy, and I made sure to get a large size so it’s loose fitting. I got the Stitch one as well 🙂

Miscellaneous

David’s Tea kit– I actually got this for Christmas as a Secret Santa/Gift Exchange gift. I had been thinking about getting some tea and liked the kit that I could try a bunch of different varieties and then upsize the ones I liked. It’s very relaxing to sit down with a hot cup of tea!

Tea mug– I saw this mug and knew I had to have it. I love puns, and only drink my tea in this.

Special K Pastry Crisps- I usually have these with my lunch and the cookies and creme are my favourite. They taste like Pop Tarts! I usually but the assorted pack from Costco, which lasts a while.

Fibre One bars- I recently discovered these and fell in love. I don’t want anyone else eating these so I stocked up! They aren’t like a normal granola bar, they are made with the puffed grain cereal and are delicious! They get me through the last few hours of my work day.

And that’s it for this month! If you’d like to hear a little more about my monthly favourites check out the coordinating video below:

What did you enjoy in March? I’d love to know! If you’d like to share, let me know in the comments!

My Camera Gear

Since Ethan and I have taken all of the pictures on the blog, let’s take a look at how we took them! Keep in mind that we are nowhere near experts on the subject, but we both bought DSLR’s at the same time (thank you Black Friday!) and enjoy learning about photography. We are not at the point yet of working in Manual, so we use Apeture priority right now. I bought my DSLR thinking I would use it primarily for taking pictures of my cakes, but taking pictures at Disney World was something Ethan and I both really enjoyed, so it’s up there on the list as well. Also since starting this blog I’ve taken it out quite a few times, so it’s slowly starting to come out of the bag more often!

My Camera Gear

Camera Bodies

I have a Canon Rebel SL1 and I love it. It’s a very small DSLR, but I’m small so it seemed fitting. It came with the kit lens (18-55mm). The only downside of the small size is it looks absolutely ridiculous with the 17-200mm lens we bought, because it’s so large. I think for that lens we will stick with using Ethan’s camera.

Ethan has a Canon Rebel T5i, and is a really good entry level DSLR. His is larger than mine and the screen can flip (I actually use it for filming videos so I can see myself and objects I hold up making sure they are in frame and in focus). There wasn’t too much of a difference between the models, and when I was looking I debated getting his, but I’m glad we got different ones so we can tell them apart and see the differences. His camera also came with the kit lens.

Lenses

I have a 40mm f/2.8 lens, which I used a lot at Disney. I love it because it as a great depth of field and achieves a nice bokeh. The only downside is because it is a prime lens you have to “zoom with your feet” or move closer to the subject yourself, which isn’t always possible. I used this lens the majority of the time when we were in Disney and know it can take great pictures.

Ethan bought a 10-18mm f/ that he used a lot. It was nice because if people were in the way he could get really close to whatever he was shooting and it still looked like he was far away. You just have to be careful when you get too close, because it can warp your subject like a fisheye lens. It can be found here.

We recently bought a 70-200mm f/4 IS L series lense that I can’t wait to use on our next trip. I can picture using it on Kiliminjaros Safaris to get some great close-ups. You can find it here.

Accessories

Ethan bought a Neutral Density Filter before our trip and used it while taking pictures of the fireworks. He bought a Tiffen 67mm ND 0.9 filter.

We have a tripod, a Manfroto befree. It’s fairly light and really easy to use. We didn’t carry it a lot on our last trip to WDW, and the day that we did we had it stored in a locker for most of the day. It folds up very small which is great for travelling. You may have seen it in my last YouTube video!

My camera strap is by Fotostrap, and I absolutely love it. I got it in 2014 as a Christmas gift, and I was so happy to have it in Disney World! I have the Cobalt one, and it is just the right amount of colour. It has grip on the back of the leather piece so it doesn’t move around, and it’s very comfortable. Seriously, I cannot say enough good things about this camera strap! You can see it pretty well in the picture below.

Epcot Picture

Ethans camera strap is Disney, so of course I got it for him! He got his for Christmas this year. I found it on Ebay.

As you might be able to tell Ethan is in charge of buying equipment, and he also bought a remote before out trip last year. He bought a FotoTech wired remote. We used it during the fireworks, and it was great!

Storage

I’ve talked a little about Ethan’s camera bag and how we used it on our last trip in this post. It’s a Vanguard Adaptor 45 and can be found here.

Ethan's Backpack

My camera bag is a lot smaller, so I usually don’t take it to Disney. I got the one I did thinking about cake deliveries and not wanting to carry a huge camera bag. It’s by Cameron, and can be found here.

Post Processing

Adobe Lightroom 6- I used Adobe Lightroom to edit all of my pictures. It’s very easy to use and really brings the pictures to life. I’m so happy we purchased this software last year.

Books

I should also mention the one photography book we have, Understanding Exposure. I got the newest version for Ethan for his birthday, so he’s in the process of reading it. I’m next!

If you are interested in photography I’d love to hear what equipment you have, please let me know in the comments!

FabFitFun Spring 2016 Box!

Hello everyone! I just received my Spring 2016 FabFitFub Box and I thought I would share it with you! Below is an unboxing video where I show everything that was in my box. I’m really happy with what was included, so take a look!

I’ve also included a list of everything that was in the box with links and retail prices. This box costs $49.95 US so with shipping I paid $78.73 CAD (thanks crappy Canadian Dollar!). The box contains full size products and is valued at over $200, so it’s still a really good deal in my opinion. There is one box for each season. This is the third box I’ve received, and I want to see how many things I use to make my mind up about keeping the subscription. I think I will keep it for one more box then re-evaluate. All of the information below is from the booklet that is included in the box.

Herb Garden by MakersKit– this adorable kit came with everything needed to grow Thyme, Mint and Basil. I can’t wait to be able to use these herbs! Retails for $35.

Countour Kit by ISH– I am a newbie when it comes to makeup, but I’m certainly excited to have something that I probably wouldn’t have bought by myself. The kit includes a highlighter, bronzer, blush and contour. I selected the Light/Medium palette. Retails for $32.

Bath Bomb Trinity by Jus D’Amour– I’m not normally a bath person, but the number of YouTubers that I watch who enjoy bath bombs have made me consider trying it. I’m so excited my box came with three to try! They all smell amazing too! Retails for $28.

Keratin Gloves® & Socks by Bodipure Inc– My hands and feet always get dry in the winter, so I hope trying these will get them summer ready! Retails for $9.98.

Tag Necklace by Jook & Nona– You also chose what your necklace would say this box, and I love my love necklace! So simple but beautiful. Retails for $65.

Shaving Emulsion Lotion by HelloLegs- This combination of body lotion and shaving cream is something I can’t wait to try! Retails for $19.95. Unfortunately I can’t find a link for this item. Sorry friends!

Argan & Hemp Oil Therapy by Marrakesh– I have been looking for something to de-frizz my hair, so I am definitely looking forward to trying this! Retails for $22.99.

Yoga Strap Mat by Merrithew– I have to admit I wasn’t sure what this was! You can use it as a carrying strap for your yoga mat, or as a resistance cord during yoga practise. I will give this a try! Retails for $14.99

$25 Gift Card by 31 Bits– The one thing I like about the FFF gift cards, is there is no minimum purchase. The picture I put on canvas for Ethan’s Christmas gift was actually a coupon from a FFF box! (Don’t worry I still paid for the majority of it!) Retails for $25, obvi!

$30 Gift Card by Sterling Forever– I don’t wear a ton of jewellery, but I will definitely take a look now that I have a gift card burning a hole in my wallet! Retails for $30.

The total retail value of the box is $282.91! Wow!

Also included was a card from I Am That Girl, an organization committed to empowering girls. It is hard to be a girl, so let’s build each other up, not put each other down! For more information on I Am That Girl, click here.

FabFitFun Spring Box

If you are interested in the FabFitFun box, click here for $10 off your first box!

The one thing I do like about the FabFitFun boxes is the ability to try things you might not normally buy. I do hope that by the time I get the next box, I’ve tried at least a couple of products for the spring box! Do you subscribe to any monthly/seasonal boxes? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear what you are trying!
