Monthly Favourites- February 2016

I’ve been thinking of ways that I can share more of my life, and I thought starting a new routine would be a great way to do that! Once a month I want to post about the things I am enjoying, my monthly favourites. The items will change but it’s fun to think about the things that bring me joy, and I like reading about other peoples favourites each month. Over time I will try to sort the items into categories, but it may take a while to figure out. I’ve linked all the items, so just hover over the text and pictures to click the link! Okay, let’s get started!

Monthly Favourites

Entertainment

Books- I am a bookworm. I definitely don’t read as much as I would like to, but I am always reading something. Right now I’m re-reading the Harry Potter series (currently on the Goblet of Fire), and I’ve also been reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. I have yet to actually go through anything, but reading the book is getting me ready. Let me know if you would be interested in my experience with the Kon-Mari method! I also am interested in the “sequel” Spark Joy, and hope to read that soon.

Music- I always look forward to visiting Ethan’s Parents, and because they are a 2 1/2 hour drive away, I look forward to spending time in the car with Ethan. When we went up Valentine’s weekend we listened to both of Christina Perri’s cds. We saw her when she opened up for Ed Sheeran last year, and bought her cds after enjoying her set so much! I forgot how much I enjoyed her music, and loved listening in the car.

T.V.- Ethan and I have been watching Suits on Netflix lately, and I really like this show! We are on Season 3 now, and are watching it fairly quickly (for us anyways). It’s filmed in Toronto so I like to spot easter eggs of the city I visited daily for school a few years ago. If you haven’t watched it I would recommend giving it a try! I’ve also been watching some of my all time favourites, Gilmore Girls and How I Met Your Mother. I haven’t watched HIMYM all the way through since it ended, and I’m not sure if I will (I hated the ending). I’m currently on Season 2, and I enjoy the earlier seasons more than the newer ones.

Clothing

Wishes Shirt– I was so excited for this shirt to come I posted on Instagram as soon as it came. (Not following me yet? Click here to start!) I actually saw it on Instagram and knew I had to have it. If you like subtle Disney merchandise, definitely check them out!

Old Navy Go Warm Compression Leggings– I wish I could live in these! They are so comfortable and surprisingly warm. I like to wear them while I lounge around the house or during light workouts. I got them on sale, and am so happy I did. I buy a lot of stuff at Old Navy, mostly because they always have sales on. I love to shop online, and I use Ebates when I do! If you’ve never heard of Ebates all you do it log in, search the store you are looking to shop for and click to start shopping. You get different percentages of cash back, but it actually works. Click here to sign up if you are interested.

Beauty

Revlon Eyeliner- I want to start by saying I know pretty much nothing about makeup! I’ve started using pen eyeliners, and find them easier to apply. I thought I would try this one as it was thinner than the one I had, and I really like it! As much as I like ordering from Sephora, it’s nice to be able to grab something from the drugstore when you are close-by.

Nail Polish- I surprised myself with wanting to paint my nails. When I went to chef school we weren’t allowed to wear nail polish, so I hadn’t really wanted to in a long time. Now I’ve been doing my nails once a week and it’s nice to have some “me” time. It’s also a bonus that I’ve very slow, so I get even more “me” time ha!

Bath and Body Works Body Cream– Unfortunately I couldn’t find the Strawberry & Bourbon Vanilla one I’ve been loving, but they have so many scents available! This cream soaks into my skin and smells so good! I’ve loved the True Blue Spa creams but they were a little pricy, so the body creams are a great replacement. There are always sales and coupons to use, so I love stocking up!

Miscellaneous

Crispy Minis! Salt & Vinegar specifically. I love potato chips (they are my weakness) and since I’ve been doing the Tone It Up Challenge, I’ve been looking for a treat that was healthier. I found them!

Happy Birthday Ethan!

Today’s post is a little different, because it’s Ethan’s Birthday!

Ethan at Cali Grill

In case you didn’t know, Ethan had never been to Walt Disney World before he met me. Since then he’s been three times (in the last five years) with plans for another trip this year. We went in 2012 with my whole family, and just he and I went in 2013 and 2015. So thank you Ethan for putting up with my Disney obsession. I know it can’t be easy, but thank you. I’m so glad you enjoy Disney, and I enjoy exploring the Disney details together. Thank you for supporting this (crazy) venture I started 6 months ago, and letting me use your photos :). I’ve loved the trips we’ve taken so far, and I can’t wait to take more with you. You’ve taught me so much about myself, and the last almost five years have been more than I could have ever hoped for. I hope you enjoy your day and your ice cream cake!

this time last year, we were in Epcot!

I know this post is sappy, but Ethan deserves it! Wish him Happy Birthday in the comments!

Ethan, I love you with all my heart!

How I Stay Organized

Today I wanted to take you behind the scenes! I wanted to show you how I stay organized with working full time, having a blog, and doing cakes on the side. This is my planner, and I love it.

How I Stay Organized

I am a huge fan of to-do lists and physically writing things down. When I was in college I had an agenda that I used to keep track of everything. Once I graduated, I fumbled around trying to keep track of things in my phone, and it just wasn’t working. Then a vlogger I watch regularly posted on Instagram about a planner she just bought, by Erin Condren. So I went on YouTube and typed it in. Holy cow. It’s like a cult, there were so many results! Then I saw another vlogger that I watch regularly has one, so I really wanted one.

I caved and bought the vertical life planner for 2015-2016 (July 2015-December 2016.) One of the things I love about it is there is space for everything. I use a box for personal things, a box for the blog, and a box for any orders or baking I have to do. And it’s pretty! Below is an example of the weekly spread:

Weekly Spread

As you can see I decorate it a little, but definitely don’t go as far as some people where you can’t see any paper there are so many stickers! I like to spend some time on Sundays filling out the week with the workouts and meal prep I want to do, cleaning around the house, things I want to do for the blog, and baking (look at the adorable mixer sticker!).

Monday-Wednesday

Thursday-Sunday

Since I got the planner in July I have notice a huge difference! I feel more organized and on top of things (I have anxiety and need to know what’s going on) and even Ethan has noticed a difference.

If you are interested I laid out all of the accessories I have for my planner, including pens and stickers, washi tape and other accessories I’ve bought from Erin Condren.

Carry-all Clutch

I bought the carry-all clutch for my planner to protect it because I take it everywhere! I actually convinced my sister to buy it for me (thanks Alex! :)) and love it.

The pens I use are and they are erasable! I like using pens because I can use a different colour in each section, plus if I make a mistake I can easily fix it. For a while I used pens by Staedtler, but they didn’t write as nicely as I liked, and I had to use whiteout when I messed up.

Pens

I have a fairly small washi tape collection, and always want more. I’m making myself use some of it up before I buy more, because I won’t be able to fit it all in my little bag! I got the holiday ones from Michaels, and I believe the rest are from DeSerres.

Washi Tape

I actually bought a Cricut Explore so I could make my own sticker because shipping to Canada on Etsy is expensive! I made all of the ones on this weekly spread except for the mixer and the grocery bag (they are from Paper Loving Mommy on Etsy, I love her stuff but just can’t justify the shipping cost!) I look forward to seeing what else the Cricut can do, so let me know if you are interested in seeing the things I create with it!

I also have a few covers for the planner, to switch out for holidays and other occasions.

Planner Covers

Yes I realized this whole post is about my planner, but it is the secret to staying organized! A lot of people don’t really understand how much work it is to have a blog, so I wanted to let you in on my secret! (I guess it’s not really a secret anymore, ha!) If you are looking at my planner and thinking it might be for you, click here to check them out, and receive $10 off!

How do you stay organized? Let me know in the comments!

If you are interested in seeing more behind the scenes things, or want to know about something in particular,  please let me know and I will try and post about it!

PS I hope you are liking the blogs new look!

Thanks for reading,
