DIY: Bridesmaid Proposal!

Hello everyone, and welcome to my first DIY post! Today I am sharing my DIY Bridesmaid proposal! I sharing exactly how I asked my sister and best friend to be a part of my big day! I wanted to do something cute and something they could keep, so this is what I came up with! I made these over a year ago and this post has gotten pushed back a few times, but I’m excited to finally be sharing it! Okay, without further ado let’s get started!

Diy bridesmaid proposal

You’ll need:

  • wood box (I got mine at Michael’s)
  • Paint
  • Foam brush
  • newspaper/sheets to cover the area you are painting
  • paint pen
  • krinkle paper ( i got my bag at Michaels)
  • fun things to fill it with!

This DIY is suuuuper simple! Ready for the 3 easy steps?

Step 1

First I painted the boxes. I chose navy because I was 90% sure it was going to be one of our wedding colours, and I wanted it to “go”. I did two coats, especially because it’s a darker colour I wanted it to be even. I did this over the span of a few days, giving the coats ample time to dry.

Step 2

Next I wrote inside the lid “Will you be my…” I tried with a silver Sharpie but found that didn’t work, so I bought a paint pen that worked much better! Looking back at this I wish my handwriting was better, especially since I’ve been working on it! I’m sure you could find a stencil if you didn’t want to write by hand, or find a template online.

Step 3

Next I added the paper, and then the gifts! I didn’t add too much because I still wanted the boxes to close to leave a little to the imagination! I chose to add a small bottle of Asti and a ring-pop for my Maid of Honour, and got my sister an prepaid Mastercard card because she doesn’t drink.

I also wrote a little note for an even more personal touch 🙂

That’s about it! Very simple, but I thought it was a nice way to ask my girls! If you are getting married or are married, how did you ask your bridal party? I’d love to know in the comments!

If there are any other wedding related posts you’d like to see on the blog, let me know! I know I plan on sharing some DIY posts after the wedding (as to not spoil it for any readers who will attending the wedding!) and sharing how we found items to fit our special day! It’s getting closer and closer guys! Ahhh!

Thank you so much for joining me today!

Wedding Planning Update: Months 9-15

Hello friends! Welcome back to another wedding planning update! Today I am sharing everything we’ve done wedding planning wise since July of 2017, going up to the end of January 2018. It feels like we haven’t done a lot, but as I started piecing together this post, we’ve definitely done a lot! I explain a bit more about everything we’ve done in the video below, but I’ll also talk a little bit about each of the items below the video.

Wedding planning update

If you missed the first post in this wedding series, check that out here! I plan on doing one more in August before the wedding (which is in September), and after that I will share all of the details of our big day! I’m not giving out exact details before then for privacy reasons, but I will share everything after the fact! Okay, let’s get started!

The things we’ve done!

  • Bought my wedding dress! Check out this weekend vlog if you’d like to see some of the other ones I tried on!
  • booked section at hotel- our venue has accomodations, so we’ve booked a few rooms for guests who don’t want to stay on site
  • had engagement pictures taken! I love our pictures, and we’ve already printed and hung some in our bedroom. I’ve scattered some of my favourites through the post 🙂

  •  hired a dj- one thing that was nice to cross off the list!
  • hired an officiant- another nice thing to check off! We still have to put together our ceremony, but we still have plenty of time!
  • looked at bridesmaid dresses- I’m pretty sure we’ve found the ones, and this happened when I went back to purchase my dress! What can I say, I’m efficient!

Monthly Favourites September 2017

  • sent save the dates- which makes it real!
  • hired a florist- I didn’t think I’d be super excited about flowers, but I love the look we are going for, and working with the florist to put together a proposal was really fun!
  • talked to shuttle company- we haven’t officially booked this yet, but we don’t need to book super far in advance. It’s a school bus that will pick guests up from the hotel, and loop back and forth later in the night.

Wedding planning update

  • booked rental items- our venue is a DIY venue, so we have to bring everything in. This meant figuring out how many table settings, tablecloths ect. we needed! We finalized the numbers (we over-estimated so we could guarantee availability), and can make any changes up to 2 weeks before the big day.
  • got ethan’s suit started- we went to Moore’s and purchased a custom suit, and I really like how it will look!
  • I purchased my hairpiece and veil from this shop on Etsy, and saved a lot of money from what the bridal salon would have charged! The veil is almost exactly the same as the one I tried on, so I’m happy! I just have to purchase the belt for my dress and figure out jewelry and shoes.

Wedding Planning Update

  • we worked on our registries! It’s a lot more work than I thought, so make sure to think of that before you start! Our situation might be a little different because we need everything, but it’s still be pretty time consuming!
  • We started brainstrorming ideas for decor, and have a bit of an idea of how we want everything to look. Now we just have to actually get the things!
  • we have the dates we want to go on our honeymoon, and we know where! I’ll share this later 🙂
  • and at the very end of January we booked hair!
  • hired a videographer! I completely forgot to mention this in the video, but we hired a videographer. It was something Ethan and I went back and forth on, but I ultimately decided I really wanted to have a video of our day!

Wedding Planning Update

I can definitely say that we’ve done a lot and gotten a lot of the bigger things out of the way. The only vendor I have left to book is makuep! other than that, we will be focusing on decor and the smaller things. I know we want to make some things ourselves, and maybe I’ll even do a DIY post after the wedding! Because some people who will be attending read here and I don’t want to spoil it! But I can say that I’m really starting to see the day come together, and I’m getting excited! I used to just feel stress/anxiety when thinking about it, so it’s nice to feel something different!

Thank you so much for joining me in today’s wedding planning update! Have any questions or advice? Leave them in the comments below!

My Wedding Planning Experience- The First 8 Months!

Hello friends! I’ve been hinting and hinting about this post in my weekend vlogs, and today is the day! Since getting engaged in November, I thought I would film a video walking you guys through what my wedding planning experience has been like so far. I thought I could do an update every six months or so, as well as a video after the wedding, to give you guys all of the details! I decided to film a video because I knew it would be long, and I’ve briefly listed the things we have done so far below the video. And it’s already been a journey!

Wedding Planning

For privacy I won’t be giving details/names of our vendors until after the wedding, which I hope you can understand! You can watch the video where I go through the last 8 months below:

A brief summary of the last 8 months!

We got home from out trip to Walt Disney World in the second week of November, and started the venue search right away. We knew we wanted something a little less traditional, and a place that we would feel reflected us and where we could feel comfortable. We looked for venues any spare moment we had (and it was exhausting!) but we found one we liked! We arranged a meeting for December.

We met with the venue- a brewery that was expanding to a new location, and hadn’t been built yet. It would be three floors, the actual brewery on the first floor, the venue space on the second, and a restaurant and patio space on the third floor. Estimated completion was September 2017.

We booked the brewery for September 2018! The venue is inclusive with food and alcohol, so we had a big check mark on things to do, and took a bit of a breather! I also attended a few bridal shows and got lots to see lots of things! Photographers, invitations, it was a lot!

We met with and booked a month of co-ordinator, to help take some of the stress of the final months before the wedding off, as well as having someone to make sure everything runs smoothly. I didn’t want to be the person everyone was asking questions to!

We took a break and basically just researched different vendors.

We met with and booked our photographer, the sister of the co-ordinator of the brewery! We also started our registries with Hudson’s Bay, Bed Bath & Beyond and Disney Honeymoons. Yes, Disney, but I won’t be saying anything about that right now! 😀

Oh May! Definitely the hardest month so far. In the second week of May I received an email that the brewery building had to be re-done to accommodate an accessible parking spot that is required by law. Remember the original completion date of September 2017? Since the plans would have to be re-done and resubmitted, the new estimated completion date is July 2018, aka 2 months before our wedding. The sinking feeling in my stomach was not one that I wanted to re-live, especially that close to the wedding, so we decided to look for another venue. Don’t worry, we got our full deposit back!

We spend the next two weeks researching venues, and picked a new one :D! It’s at a conservation area and is more of a DIY venue where we hire and bring in all of the vendors. But it will be an all weekend events because it also has lodging for 86 people! I think the new venue suits both of us, and I really fell in love with it. I got that feeling that I think you should get when you find the place you are getting married! We also had a tasting with a preferred caterer and booked them as well! Below is a picture from our new venue 🙂

Wedding Planning

We hired the bartenders in June, and relaxed a bit after checking off a big item! We also brainstormed ideas for centrepieces and décor, and the overall “look” we are going for. It was something I found overwhelming to think about, but the ideas just came to me 🙂

In July I spoke with and booked our officiant, so we are definitely getting things done! And I made a dress appointment for the beginning of August! We also scheduled our engagement pictures for September! We’re on a roll!

Overall thoughts

The past 8 months have seriously flown by, and although we had a major setback, I’m feeling really good with where we are on our list! I can definitely start to see the day coming together in my mind, and I can’t wait to be married!

If I could give one piece of advice to any future bride reading this: don’t book a venue that isn’t built yet! Even if you think it is going to be finished really far in advance (we thought we were going to have a year), don’t book it. The feeling of a venue falling through is not good, and I wouldn’t wish that feeling upon anyone.

Like I mentioned above I think I will do a video and post like this probably towards the end of this year or the beginning of next year to cover what we have done by then, and so on until the wedding, plus a recap after! I definitely want to share the wedding planning experience with you guys, and if you have any advice, let me know in the comments!

Thank you so much for reading!
