Hello everyone, I hope you are well! Today I wanted to share an update on the skincare I’m using! I did a Drunk Elephant Skincare Review post last year, and wanted to share my thoughts now that it’s been a while! Today’s post will be a little rambly, so there’s a video at the bottom if you would rather watch that! Okay, let’s get started.
So to quickly recap, I’ve had problems with my skin for a while. I don’t break out a lot, but my skin is very red and bumpy. A year ago I decided to try Drunk Elephant skincare to see if it could clear up my skin, because less than 6 months before my wedding I was willing to try anything. So I bought The Littles (a kit that comes with sample sizes of some of their products), and liked it. So I slowly began to purchase the full sizes and continue to us them.
There was one thing I didn’t realize when I was using the products. I was also working out regularly and eating very clean. So, I don’t think it was the products clearing up my skin, it was the lack of junk! After the wedding my eating habits went back to “normal”, and my skin went back to how it was before. Which when you think the money you’ve spent on skincare is working and then it stops, it’s frustrating. I continued to use them all up, and just have the Marula Oil and one of the moisturizers left, and I’ve started trying some other products.
I recently purchased Salicylic Acid 2% and Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% from The Ordinary, which is a brand that gets compared to Drunk Elephant a lot, but at a fraction of the price. And for moisturizers I’ve bought some small sized Clinique ones that I’m trying out. I will report back with any favourites or if I find anything that clears my skin up. But I’m also trying to change my eating habits again, which I think is a big piece of the puzzle.
Since I started using The Ordinary products I have noticed the texture on my forehead has gone away and is much smoother, so I’m happy! And the other product that has been working for me is the Boscia Black Luminizing Mask. You put it on and let it dry and peel it off, but my face is SO smooth after.
As for Drunk Elephant products that I would re-purchase, I think it would just be the bar cleansers. I am still using the travel size Juju bar (exfoliating cleanser) over A YEAR later, and am now using the full size Pekee bar. I think that although the are expensive they last forever and I would probably buy them again. But for everything else, I’m not so sure. The C-Firma in particluar I couldn’t use up fast enough before it changed in colour (which is when you are supposed to stop using it).
I don’t know that I could whole-heartedly recommend all of the Drunk Elephant products, but if it’s something you can afford and want to try, I say go for it! Of course this is all just my opinion and you might feel differently!
