Hello everyone, I hope you are well! Today I’m back with another post in the Building Our Home Sweet Home Series, and I finally have some updates! Okay, let’s get right into it!
Okay so just to quickly recap, here are the dates we’ve had for our house so far. We bought in October 2016, with an original closing date of October 1, 2018. We were delayed to January 2019, then May 2019, and on April 15th we were delayed to January 22nd, 2019 (about a week before our contract end date).
We’ve been driving out to the site pretty much weekly for the past two months, and there is finally progress! What was a pile of dirt for YEARS, there is now a foundation! I’m trying not to get too excited and everything depends on how fast the builder wants to build, but we have the beginnings of a house! I’ll put some pictures down below and catch you up on everything else.
On August 10th we reached out to our THIRD lawyer. It’s been a saga guys. We basically were looking for an answer to one question: if we could get out of the deal or not. I spoke to this lawyer the next day and got the answer, no. Which is what we thought and are somewhat okay with. So basically, we are waiting until January no matter what.
So I call Ethan to tell him what they lawyer confirmed and Ethan says “Guess what I just got. An email from the builder saying that our decor appointment will be coming up”. We hadn’t heard anything since APRIL, so I started crying. This process hasn’t been easy, and I just reached a breaking point. I mean, I guess any news is good news at this point.
The following week on August 20th we got an email to schedule our appointment for structural and decor, and we booked that for yesterday. So hopefully that goes well and in the next update I’ll show you what we’ve picked out and maybe some footage of the design centre if I can get that.
I still feel like I have to keep some details private, but I think Ethan and I have decided that if this house isn’t finished when it currently is set to- we will most likely be getting a different house. There are a lot of factors going into this decision that I might go into once this whole situation is behind us, but for now that’s the most up to date information.
It’s hard because I’m a very emotional person, I am definitely keeping my guard up through this process. I want to get excited about picking out everything, but if we end up going another direction I don’t want to be devastated. So I’m trying to be as excited as I can, while still knowing that this might not be our house. I feel kind of silly for it, but I’m sure if anyone has been through the same thing you can understand.
